The exit code, also called the international call prefix or the dial out code, is the number that allows you to dial outside of the country you are currently in. Different countries have different exit codes. For instance, the exit code for the United States is 011, for Nigeria it’s 009, and for Saudi Arabia it’s 00. You can find the exit codes by contacting your phone company or doing a quick internet search. Just type in the name of your country followed by “dial out code” or “exit calling code.”
2. Dial 86 to connect with China. This is the country code for China. The country code is typically 1-3 digits long. This code identifies the country to which you are placing a call; each nation has a different country code.
3. Determine whether the number is for a landline or mobile phone. In China, mobile phone numbers are 11 digits (not including the exit or country codes), and they always begin with 1, whereas landlines are usually 6-8 digits (without the exit or country codes). It is important to know whether the number is a landline or not, as you do not use area codes for Chinese mobile phones.
4. Dial the mobile number to call a mobile phone. If you were dialing a mobile Chinese number from the United States, it would look like: 011-86-155-5555-5555. 011 is the exit code, 86 the country code, and 155 5555 5555 is the mobile number.

Estimated Reading Time: 6 minsViews: 35.1K1. Contact your phone provider to get a quote for making a call to China. There is a large range when it comes to rates for international calls from the United States. The call can cost anywhere from $.01/minute to $3.00/minute. Needless to say, you’ll want to call your phone provider first before getting a nasty surprise when you get your phone bill in the mail. If you find yourself making calls to China often, you may want to switch your phone plan to a carrier that has a reasonable international calling rate. Many companies cater to folks who make a lot of international calls.
2. Dial the United States exit code, 011. Once you’re sure the phone call won’t break the bank, you’ll need to enter the United States exit code. The U.S. exit code is the digits 011. You’ll use this same code when making any international call from the United States.
3. Dial China’s country code, 86. After you’ve dialed the United States exit code, enter China’s country code. This code applies to the entire country of China, so you’ll enter 86 no matter where in China you are making the call.
4. Dial the area code if you are calling a landline in China. Once you’ve entered the United States exit code and China’s country code, you will enter the area code. If you are calling a cellphone number, you can skip this step; only landlines in China require an area code. Area codes in China will be between two and four digits. For example, you would dial 10 for Beijing, 21 for Shanghai, and 514 for Yangzhou.
